Key Features
- Covers all three BS 6387 cable circuit-integrity test categories in one FESTEC system range — Category C (fire alone), Category Z (fire with mechanical shock) and Category W (fire with water spray)
- Category C (FT-CFR-818): verifies circuit integrity of a vertically mounted cable bundle at a flame of at least 950°C, held within 950 ±40°C for 3 hours by twin thermocouples 45mm either side of the burner centre-line — beyond the temperature called for in IEC 60331-11 & 21
- Category Z (FT-CFZ-219): adds a mild-steel shock wave generator (25 ±5% dia. × 600 ±5% length) that strikes the cable holder through repeated mechanical blows while the same 950 ±40°C flame is held for 3 hours
- Category W (FT-CFW-820): sprays the cable evenly with water at a controllable 2.5–3.5 kPa (0.25–0.30 L/s) during a 650 ±50°C flame, to BS 6387 Annex D.3, with a recirculating tank so no external water supply is needed
- Every model shares a ribbon-type propane burner on a Venturi Mixer structure, automatic ignition and an on-burner calibration plate for consistent, repeatable testing
- Manual control-panel or automatic computer-software modes; Category C and Z models can be extended to cover IEC 60331-1/2/3, and can share one Slidac power supply (up to 1,000V) with a combined IEC 60331 and BS 6387 order to reduce cost
About the BS 6387 Fire Test Systems
The BS 6387 Fire Test range from FT Solutions Co., Ltd. (FESTEC), South Korea, covers all three BS 6387 cable circuit-integrity categories in one family of systems. Category C (FT-CFR-818) tests resistance to fire alone, Category Z (FT-CFZ-219) adds mechanical shock, and Category W (FT-CFW-820) adds a water spray, so a cable maker or laboratory can qualify a cable for each category.
Category C holds a flame of at least 950 °C, kept within 950 ±40 °C by twin thermocouples 45 mm either side of the burner centre-line, for 3 hours. Category Z applies repeated blows from a mild-steel shock wave generator (25 ±5% diameter × 600 ±5% length) under the same flame. Category W sprays the cable with water at a controllable 2.5–3.5 kPa (0.25–0.30 L/s) during a 650 ±50 °C flame, to BS 6387 Annex D.3, from a recirculating tank so no external water supply is needed. Every model uses a ribbon-type propane burner on a Venturi Mixer structure with automatic ignition and an on-burner calibration plate.

BS 6387 Fire Test Systems: frequently asked questions
What is the difference between BS 6387 Category C, Z and W?
Category C tests circuit integrity in fire alone, at a flame of at least 950 °C for 3 hours. Category Z adds mechanical shock from repeated blows on the cable holder under the same flame. Category W sprays the cable with water during a 650 ±50 °C flame, to Annex D.3.
Which FESTEC model covers which BS 6387 category?
FT-CFR-818 covers Category C, FT-CFZ-219 covers Category Z and FT-CFW-820 covers Category W. All three share a ribbon-type propane burner on a Venturi Mixer structure with automatic ignition and a calibration plate.
Can I also test to IEC 60331 on the same equipment?
Yes. The Category C and Z models can be extended to cover IEC 60331-1/2/3, and an order for both IEC 60331 and BS 6387 can share one Slidac power supply (up to 1,000 V) to reduce cost.
What are the installation requirements for the BS 6387 test systems?
Category C and Z systems measure 1,600 × 850 × 1,650 mm and Category W measures 1,480 × 1,200 × 1,250 mm. All models need an AC 380 V, 3-phase, 50/60 Hz, 30 A supply, propane gas, compressed air, and hood, duct and dust-collector extraction.
